FAQS About Travel Nursing
How long will it take before I begin my first travel nursing job?
A lot of it depends on you and when you want to start working. When jobs are posted they are looking for someone to fill the need immediately. So you could start work as soon as a week or two from submission, or you could wait a few months before leaving your permanent position to begin a traveling lifestyle.
Do I need a new license for each state I work in?
Yes and No. Each state requires a separate nursing license to practice in. If your original nursing license is apart of the compact state legislature and you are traveling within the other compact states (23 currently https://www.ncsbn.org/nurse-licensure-compact.htm) then you don't need to get a new license for each state you go too . Regardless HARTRA will reimburse you for all costs associated with getting your license if you get an assignment through us.
How much experience do I need to become a travel nurse?
Rule of thumb is one year in your current specialty that you will be traveling in. It can vary and be more depending on specialty, facility and unit.
